You Don’t Always See It Right Away

By the time you notice something is wrong, it’s usually been wrong for a long time.

That’s the part people don’t see.

They see the moment. The behavior. The smell. The refusal.

They don’t see the slow unraveling that came before it.

I’ve learned that most things on the street don’t announce themselves clearly. They don’t show up labeled. They show up sideways—through small things that don’t quite make sense until they do.

A person sitting longer than they should. Clothes that don’t match the weather. A response that feels just slightly off.

It’s easy to dismiss those things. It’s easier to explain them away.

But if you stay long enough, if you pay attention, patterns begin to form.

And once you see it, you can’t unsee it.

That’s the part that stays with you.

Not just what happened. But how long it had been happening before anyone called it something.
